Los Angeles/Munich, 08/11/2017 – FlixBus, Europe’s fastest growing mobility start-up is considering an entry of the US market. Being the leading platform for long-distance bus services in Europe and covering 26 countries, FlixBus would expand its green business model for the first time outside of Europe.
FlixBus stands for green and budget travel with high-quality standards. A rare combination that already led to considerable success all over Europe. Now, the innovative long-distance bus service is heading to the US. André Schwämmlein, FlixBus founder and CEO: “There is a huge change in the US-American mobility market – and we want to be part of it. Our technology and data driven business model perfectly fits the market’s needs.” A first team is already preparing the potential market entry and is based in Los Angeles. Together with its regional SME bus partners FlixBus has developed into the leading long-distance bus network in Europe and is now aiming to become a global player in the mobility market.
Local industry benefits from new opportunities
FlixBus was launched in 2013 in Germany after the liberalisation of the national market. Based on an innovative business model, new tech solutions and the cooperation with regional bus companies the startup built a national network within months and became a European market leader in only four years.
André Schwämmlein: “We are cooperating with regional SME bus companies that are responsible for the daily operation of the bus fleet, while we develop the network, the technological platform and keep the relationship with the customers. Our partnership model perfectly matches the American business culture as two entrepreneurial partners build a new business together. Many SME bus companies already show great interest in our idea.”
FlixBus currently offers Europe’s most extensive coach network with 200.000 daily connections to 26 countries in Europe and created more than 6,000 new jobs in the local SME industry of its key markets. From European offices with more than 1,000 employees in Munich, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Zagreb, Amsterdam, Prague and Budapest. FlixBus is now operating 1,500 green buses all over Europe and carries around 40 million passengers in 2017. Despite global players entering the growing market, FlixBus and its regional bus partners emerged as the European market leader and have set new service standards for bus travellers.
Revolution of traditional bus travel industry: green and budget travel with high-quality standards
FlixBus introduced product innovations like its international state-of-the-art booking platform, data- and demand driven network planning, a dynamic pricing system similar to major airlines and push notifications via mobile app in case of delays or GPS-live-tracking of the FlixBuses. These and many more high-quality standards create a unique travel experience that is already most popular amongst students, professionals and even seniors all over Europe. André Schwämmlein: “We introduced a new mobility alternative and attracted a whole new target group. We already changed the way how people travel in Europe. Now our vision is to offer American customers the same green experience.”
