Munich / Berlin / Stuttgart (June 13, 2018) – Due to higher than anticipated demand, more FlixTrain trains will soon be traveling throughout Germany. More travel options will be accompanied by the introduction of seat reservations and the launching of pop-up shops at central stations to ensure greater comfort and ease of booking. The train offer will continue to complement a growing FlixBus network which will also expand this summer due to record-breaking seasonal travel.
FlixTrain expansion earlier than planned due to fully-booked trains
Beginning June 21, another green FlixTrain will commute between Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hanover and Berlin, increasing the frequency on the connection to up to twice per day. This train was initially planned for July but is being launched a month earlier as the current offering is booking to capacity. On the route from Hamburg to Cologne, via destinations such as Düsseldorf and Essen, a fourth train will be added on July 19, also increasing this offer to up to twice per day in each direction.
"Three months after its introduction, the response to FlixTrain is overwhelming, with many of our initially routes regularly fully booked. Due to this demand, we are doubling our rail offering throughout Germany,” said André Schwämmlein, CEO and Co-Founder of FlixMobility. “Based on the initial response from customers, we expect to exceed, by far, our previously-set target of 500,000 FlixTrain passengers by the end of 2018.”
Seat reservations, pop-up shops and increased timetables make traveling more convenient
For even more comfort, seat reservations will be available on FlixTrain beginning in July for as low as €3.49 online via www.FlixTrain.com or via the app. Tickets are now also available at the FlixTrain Pop-Up Shop in Stuttgart Central Station, and additional pop-ups will follow in Berlin and Dusseldorf in the coming weeks.
For 2019, FlixMobility has applied for additional FlixTrains on the routes Berlin - Cologne and Munich - Berlin, in addition to even more frequencies.
Record summer travel for FlixBus means more destinations across EU and integration with FlixTrain
Passengers aren’t only filling FlixTrains: record numbers of FlixBus tickets have been sold this summer, resulting in new connections being added across Europe.
In the German-speaking region alone, 140 new FlixBus stops will be added by the end of the year, with smaller towns and regions being connected to larger European travel hubs such as Basel, Prague, Zurich, Helsingør (DK) and Bolzano (IT) without having to transfer buses.
In Germany, the integration of trains into the existing long-distance bus network will result in an even more mobility offer that connects more than 600 inner-German destinations by road and rail. In 2017, FlixBus recorded 20% more long-distance bus passengers over the summer months. Thanks to grid expansion, investments into new services such as seat reservations and the launch of new markets such as FlixBus USA, FlixMobility is setting new travel records this summer, as well as setting a new standard for mobility across Europe and North America.
