Munich/Berlin, 03/05/2016 – Focus internationalization: By introducing a global holding and a national entity for the DACH market, FlixBus is getting ready for further growth. Lufthansa’s advisory board member Martin Koehler brings specific expertise from the global mobility market. The European FlixBus network will grow to 100,000 daily connections in 20 countries by summer. On May 4, FlixBus introduces the new international brand to its 20 million customers.
International structure with new holding and German entity
In recent months, FlixBus has founded national entities in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The new holding company “FlixMobility” controls the corporate group, while the national entity “FlixBus DACH” takes care of the day-to-day business in the DACH region (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). With currently 1,000 employees at locations in Berlin, Munich, Paris, Milan and Zagreb, the provider now operates Europe’s fastest growing network of long-distance coaches. André Schwämmlein, founder and managing director: “We have grown from German market leader to a European player within one year. Now we become clearer in structure to be even more effective and competitive in a highly dynamic market.”
Top class mobility expertise in FlixBus advisory board
Martin Koehler (58), member of the Lufthansa supervisory board since 2010 and the long-time managing director of the global business unit "Travel and Tourism" at Boston Consulting, will provide support to the FlixBus founder team together with representatives of the FlixBus investors General Atlantic, Daimler, UnternehmerTUM and Holtzbrinck Ventures. Jochen Engert, founder and managing director: "We are very happy to have Martin Koehler as an internationally recognized expert on global mobility on board."
European network grows to 100,000 connections in 20 countries
In the middle of 2015, the provider launched domestic networks in France and Italy with the new entities "FlixBus France" and "FlixBus Italia". In November 2015, a new national branch and a domestic network in the Netherlands were added. In the first half of 2016 FlixBus announced the expansion to the region of Central and Eastern Europe (“FlixBus CEE”) and added destinations as London, Stockholm and Barcelona to the international network. By summer, the network will grow to 100,000 daily connections to 800 destinations in 20 countries.
One green brand for Europe
On 4 May, FlixBus will introduce its new brand design for Europe. André Schwämmlein: "We want to create a consistent brand experience for our 20 million customers in Europe. We want to offer green and smart mobility for everyone, no matter if in Berlin, London or Barcelona.”
