Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology occupies the city's original 1859 waterworks, the only intact mid-19th-century waterworks surviving in North America. Inside, two 70-ton, 45-foot-high steam-powered beam engines that once pumped the city's entire water supply dominate the space in a way that's hard to prepare for. Art Gallery of Hamilton is the largest public art gallery in the region, with a permanent collection spanning Canadian, European, and contemporary work.
