Western Development Museum tells the story of Saskatchewan's settler history through an unusually immersive format: a full-scale recreation of a 1910 boomtown street, complete with a working blacksmith shop, a hotel, a pharmacy, and a Ukrainian Orthodox church. It's the kind of place where you end up spending twice as long as planned. The agricultural machinery collection out back is enormous and gives real context to how the province was built.

Urban landmarks

Delta Hotels Bessborough (The Bessborough) has defined Saskatoon's skyline since it opened in 1935, a château-style railway hotel with turrets and copper rooflines that look almost theatrical against the flat prairie sky. Even if you're not staying here, it's worth walking through the lobby, which retains much of its original grandeur. The hotel gardens facing the river are open to the public and make a good spot to sit and take in the view.

Broadway Bridge & Broadway Avenue form one of Saskatoon's most recognizable pairings. The 1932 concrete arch bridge carries you from downtown directly into the Broadway neighbourhood, a compact stretch of independent bookshops, coffee roasters, vintage stores, and restaurants that has managed to stay genuinely local. The bridge itself is a pleasant walk, and the avenue rewards an hour or two of slow wandering on either side.

Forestry Farm Park & Zoo started life as a Dominion Forestry Station in 1913 and has since grown into a family-friendly zoo and park on the city's northeast edge. The zoo focuses on Canadian and northern species, bison, wolves, lynx, and elk among them, and the surrounding park has picnic areas, a spray pad, and a small amusement section.
