Etruria Industrial Museum is the last surviving steam-powered potter's mill in Britain, operating on this site from 1857 right through to 1972. The star of the show is "Princess," an 1820s beam engine that still powers the historic machinery on special steaming days. It's a compact visit, but the combination of working industrial machinery and canal-side setting makes it genuinely memorable.

Natural spaces

Trentham Estate & Gardens spreads across 725 acres along the River Trent and offers one of the most varied outdoor experiences in the Midlands. The Italian-influenced formal gardens were redesigned by Dutch plantsman Piet Oudolf, so the planting is bold and seasonal rather than stiff and formal. Add a shopping village, woodland walks, and a lake for paddleboarding, and you can easily spend a full day here.

Westport Lake Nature Reserve sits right in the city yet manages to feel genuinely removed from it. The lake attracts a wide range of wildfowl year-round, and the surrounding wetland paths are well-maintained and easy to walk. The building itself, all exposed oak beams and leaded windows, is reason enough to visit.

The Regent Theatre is Stoke-on-Trent's main venue for touring West End productions, opera, ballet, and large-scale concerts, housed in a beautifully restored Edwardian building in the city centre.
