After decades of closure for structural restoration, it has reopened to pedestrians and cyclists. Walking across it, with the bay stretching out on both sides, is one of the most satisfying things you can do in the city.

Mercado Público de Florianópolis is a nineteenth-century iron-and-stone market building in the city centre that functions simultaneously as a food hall, a bar, and a social institution. Praia de Jurerê Internacional on the northern tip of the island is Florianópolis's most polished beach, wide, calm, and lined with beach clubs that run well into the night during the summer season. Natural spaces
