Places of Interest in Herning

If you’re travelling with the family, we recommend Jllands Park Zoo. It is a very interactive zoo where there is the opportunity to touch and feed some of the animals. During the summer months, this is the perfect day out that will educate and enthral all members of the family.

With such a strong industry in the textile market, Herning hosts many wonderful traditional shops and shopping centres. The HerningCentret is recognised as Denmark’s best shopping mall! It is even open on Sunday’s from 11am-4pm.

Before your bus journey, plan ahead and check out what’s happening in the Messecenter during your trip. While you might not be interested in the many trade fairs that are held in the great hall, you might be very interested in the wonderful performances on show in the Concert Hall. Also, if there are any sports fans, have a look if you can catch a game in the Arena!

Culture and History of Herning

Established in the 1800’s, Herning has come a long way from the small farming & textile village of the past. Although, the Herning Museum displays the pride of their history and the joys of the old life in this Danish town. Home to the famous architect Jørn Utzon, there are three beautiful buildings designed by him in the city. A walk around the city provides beautiful archaic architecture.

For the art lovers amongst you, the Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum is a visit you won’t regret. There are over 4000 pieces of work created by the iconic couple! The building itself is a terrific sight, and even still, it doesn’t do justice to the masterpieces inside.

Nightlife in Herning

Herning nightlife doesn’t really start until Thursday, but the Danes really know how to enjoy themselves. If you want a relaxed night with a great selection of beers and whiskey, we suggest the “Fox and Hounds Herning”. This authentic-feel Scottish pub has fantastic staff, and even better drinks! With 15 draft beers, over 75 bottled beers, and 89 different whiskeys, you can really enjoy the experience.

If you are in the mood for dancing the night away, head towards the Østergade area. There is a selection of pubs and clubs in this area.
