With so many parks and playgrounds, it is a perfect holiday destination for the entire family. But don’t worry if you are travelling to Odense with your friends! It has something for every age group, whether you are looking to create life-lasting memories, or absorb the culture and history of this great Danish city. Things to do in Odense
One thing you can’t miss around the streets of Odense are the fairy tale sculptures. They come in many shapes and sizes, for example, “the Steadfast Tinsoldier”, “The Sea Horse” and the sculpture of “The Paper Boat”. They feature throughout the city’s many parks and waterways and they add a certain charm to an already charismatic city.
It wouldn’t be right to visit this magical city and not learn about Hans Christian Andersen and his city of birth! After all he is the famous fairy tale writer whose stories had such an impact on Europe. Some of his best-known works include “The Little Mermaid” and “The Ugly Duckling”.
Odense is a beautiful place and much of this is down to the incredibly interesting buildings, churches, old prison and harbour. Many of which are soaked in history and we highly recommend that you visit them during your bus trip to the island of Funen.
Culture & History
There is a fantastic culture in Odense and plenty of museums to indulge in:
Møntergården is a museum that is definitely worth a visit. One particular exhibit that caught our eye is ‘Funen – Centre of the universe’. Take a walk through history, and see how the revolutions and wars of Europe affected the people of Odense and surrounding towns. It is a real eye-opener to all generations, featuring many less-known sights and facts about Vikings and about Funen itself.
Den Fynske Landsby may not seem like a traditional museum, yet this outdoor small country village is quite the spectacle. This masterpiece is full of history as they use authentic houses from different eras of the past. More so, you feel the experience of the past as actors play out how their lives would have been with their farm animals in the 19th century. Plenty to learn and a great day out for the family. There are wonderful landmarks all over the city, and by simply taking a walking tour, you will feel enriched by how special a place Odense is.
Nightlife in Odense
Whether you are into Jazz, folk or club music, Odense has it all. Tell your friends you’re going to “The Gym” and meet them at this well-known nightclub to dance the night away. Remember to dress well as some of Denmark’s best DJ’s perform here. If you want to head out, but still want to sit and chat to your friends, check out the Australian bar! Relax, grab a beer, play pool and enjoy your time with the many locals that love this bar. If none of these sound appealing, you’ll have no trouble finding a good restaurant and perhaps heading to the theatre. The magnificent Odense Theatre has been producing fantastic plays since as early as 1796, and is bound to entertain with its collection of Danish and foreign classics, dance performances and musicals. This city has something for everyone, and we hope you thoroughly enjoy your bus trip to Odense with FlixBus.
