Memorial House of Mother Teresa stands on the site where Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, born in Skopje in 1910, was baptised. Museum of Macedonia takes a broader sweep through the country's history, from the Neolithic period right through to the 20th century. Housed in a building within the Old Bazaar area, it covers ethnography, archaeology, and art under one roof. The ethnographic section, with its traditional costumes, tools, and domestic objects, is especially worth your time for understanding how rural Macedonian life looked before industrialisation changed everything.

Macedonian Opera and Ballet has been the country's premier performing arts venue since 1947, staging full opera and ballet productions throughout the season. The repertoire mixes international classics with works by Macedonian composers, and ticket prices are remarkably reasonable by European standards. Even if you're not a regular opera-goer, an evening here is a genuinely enjoyable way to spend a few hours in Skopje.

Matka Canyon lies roughly 15 km southwest of the city centre, where the Treska River has carved a dramatic gorge through the limestone. The artificial lake at its base is calm and a striking shade of blue-green, and you can explore it by kayak or take a short boat trip to Vrelo Cave, one of the deepest underwater caves in the world. It feels completely removed from the city, yet it's close enough to visit on a half-day trip.
