Palacio Municipal de Tampico stands on the edge of Plaza de la Libertad and is one of the finest examples of Art Deco civic architecture in northeastern Mexico. Built during the height of the oil boom, the building's geometric ornamentation and strong vertical lines reflect the confidence of a city that briefly counted itself among the wealthiest ports in the world. Puente Tampico is a cable-stayed bridge completed in 1988 that crosses the Pánuco River, connecting Tamaulipas with the state of Veracruz. The bridge carries heavy traffic daily, but its real appeal for visitors is the view it offers.
