Torreón

Museums

Museo Arocena is the cultural anchor of the city and one of the finest private museums in northern Mexico. Founded on the collection assembled by the family of Basque immigrant Rafael de Arocena y Arbide, it holds more than 3,000 works spanning viceregal religious art, European paintings, and Mexican modernism. The building is purpose-built and well laid out, so you can move easily between galleries without losing the thread of the story being told.

Museo Regional de La Laguna takes a wider lens, tracing the human and natural history of the Comarca Lagunera region from pre-Hispanic times through to the twentieth century. Visit here before anywhere else. The context it provides makes every other site in the city more meaningful. Look out for the archaeological pieces recovered from the desert basin. They are quietly remarkable.

Parks

Bosque Venustiano Carranza is Torreón's main urban forest, a large green corridor where locals jog, cycle, and simply sit under the shade of mature trees on hot afternoons. The park has a small lake, open lawns, and enough space to feel genuinely removed from the surrounding city. It is the kind of place that tells you a lot about how a city actually lives, rather than how it presents itself to visitors.

Alameda Zaragoza is a more formal public garden in the centre of the city, lined with trees and dotted with benches and fountains. It has been a meeting point for residents for generations and still functions that way today. On weekend evenings you will find families, street food vendors, and the occasional open-air performance all sharing the same space.

Cristo de las Noas stands on the summit of Cerro de las Noas and is the most recognisable landmark in the entire Comarca Lagunera. The reinforced concrete statue of Christ measures nearly 22 metres from its base and was completed in 2000 after decades of construction. The hill sits at around 1,300 metres above sea level, so the views over Torreón's grid of streets and the surrounding desert basin are genuinely expansive.

Teleférico de Torreón is the cable car that carries you up to the Cristo de las Noas, and it is worth taking even if you have already made the climb on foot. The ride gives you a slow, unobstructed view of the city spreading out across the valley floor, and on a clear day you can see well into the neighbouring state of Durango. It is a short ride, but the perspective is hard to replicate from ground level.

Canal de la Perla is a waterfront corridor running through the city, developed into a walkway with greenery, lighting, and space for pedestrians and cyclists. Follow it in the early evening when the temperature drops and the city comes out to walk. The canal's history is tied directly to the cotton and agriculture industries that built Torreón into the city it is today.

Parque Ecológico Nazas sits along the banks of the Río Nazas and offers a quieter, more natural alternative to the city's manicured parks. The reserve protects riparian vegetation and provides habitat for local bird species, making it a worthwhile stop if you want a short break from the urban environment. Early mornings here are calm and unhurried.

Plaza Mayor de Torreón is the civic heart of the city, flanked by the cathedral, the municipal palace, and a handful of historic commercial buildings. Public life has always gathered here, for markets, celebrations, and ordinary daily routines. Spend time here at different hours and you will see a different version of the city each time.

Estadio de La Laguna is home to the Torreón football clubs and one of the most atmospheric sporting venues in northern Mexico. Even if you are not a dedicated football fan, catching a match here gives you a direct window into the city's identity. The Comarca Lagunera takes its football seriously, and the atmosphere inside the stadium on a match night reflects that.
