Eskişehir Archaeological Museum covers the region's longer story, displaying finds from prehistoric settlements, Phrygian sites, and the Roman and Byzantine periods. The collection is well-organised and manageable in size, so you can move through it in an hour or two without feeling rushed. The Phrygian artefacts stand out in particular. This part of Anatolia was central to that civilisation, and the museum gives you a real sense of how layered the history beneath modern Eskişehir actually is.

Yılmaz Büyükerşen Wax Museum is named after the long-serving mayor who championed Eskişehir's development as a cultural city, and it houses an impressive collection of lifelike wax figures of Turkish and international historical figures. It's more thoughtfully curated than the average wax attraction, with detailed period settings that give context to each figure. Children tend to love it, but adults who enjoy history will find plenty to engage with too.

Art gallery

Odunpazarı Modern Museum (OMM) opened in September 2019 and immediately became one of the most talked-about buildings in Turkey. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the structure is built from stacked timber boxes that echo the traditional wooden architecture of the surrounding Odunpazarı neighbourhood. Inside, the museum focuses on contemporary Turkish art and hosts rotating international exhibitions. Even on a quiet day, the building itself, warm, geometric, and somehow both bold and modest, is worth the trip.

Park

Sazova Science, Art & Culture Park is a large public park on the western edge of the city that packs in a science centre, an observation tower, a replica Ottoman-era castle, and wide open green spaces all in one place. It's a favourite with families and students, and the scale of it means you can spend a full afternoon without retracing your steps. The park feels genuinely designed for the people who live here, not just for visitors passing through.

Market

Atlıhan Bazaar in the Odunpazarı district is the best place to buy meerschaum directly from the craftspeople who make it. The covered bazaar brings together dozens of workshops and stalls selling carved pipes, jewellery, and decorative pieces, and you can often watch artisans at work. It's also a good spot for other local crafts. Prices vary widely, so browse a few stalls before committing. Quality and detail differ noticeably between pieces.

Eskişehir Aquarium offers a change of pace if you're travelling with younger companions or simply want something different after a day of history and culture. The aquarium features a range of freshwater and marine species and includes a walk-through tunnel that puts you eye-level with the tanks.
