Hunat Hatun Complex (Hunat Hatun Külliyesi) was commissioned in the 13th century by Hunat Hatun, wife of the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad, and it remains one of the most complete Seljuk complexes in Turkey. The ensemble includes a mosque, a medrese, a hamam, and a tomb, all clustered together just beside Kayseri Castle. The türbe (mausoleum) at its heart is particularly striking, with a finely carved entrance and an octagonal drum that rises above the surrounding rooflines.

Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque of Kayseri) has been a place of worship in the city since the 12th century, though it has been modified and restored across several eras. Its wide, low prayer hall supported by rows of stone columns gives it a very different atmosphere from the taller Ottoman mosques you might be used to elsewhere in Turkey. Cultural museums

Çifte Medrese (Gevher Nesibe Complex) dates to 1205–6 and is considered one of the earliest medical schools in the Islamic world. Built by the Seljuk Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I in memory of his sister Gevher Nesibe, the complex originally functioned as both a medical school and a hospital. Today it houses a museum of medical history, where you can trace how Seljuk physicians approached surgery, ophthalmology, and psychiatric care centuries before modern medicine formalised those disciplines.

Kayseri Archaeology Museum (Kayseri Arkeoloji Müzesi) is the best place to understand the deep timeline of this region before you head out to any of the surrounding sites. The collection spans finds from the Bronze Age through the Roman and Byzantine periods, with a particularly strong section dedicated to artefacts from Kültepe. Cuneiform tablets, cylinder seals, and Hittite-era objects are displayed clearly, giving you a solid frame of reference for what you'll see when you visit the sites themselves.

Kayseri Castle (Kayseri Kalesi) anchors the city centre both physically and historically. Mount Erciyes (Erciyes Dağı) is the dormant stratovolcano that looms over Kayseri at 3,917 metres and defines the city's skyline from almost every angle.
