Praza da Porta do Sol & O Sireno Sculpture is the main meeting point at the top of the old town, and the bronze merman sculpture by Francisco Leiro has become the unofficial symbol of the city. The square sits at a natural crossroads between the historic quarter and the modern commercial centre, and the terrace bars around it are ideal for a coffee or a glass of Albariño while you watch the city go about its day.

Mercado da Pedra (Stone Market / Oyster Market) is a small covered market near the port where local women have been selling oysters, percebes, and other shellfish for generations. The setup is simple: stone counters, fresh product, and vendors who will shuck your oysters on the spot. It's one of the most direct ways to eat well in Vigo for very little money, and the quality of the shellfish comes down to the clean, cold waters of the ría just metres away.

MARCO – Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo occupies a converted 19th-century prison in the city centre and makes excellent use of its unusual architecture.
