Hualpén sits on a peninsula where the Biobío meets the sea and protects coastal wetlands and native forest, while Nonguén is a mountain reserve with dense araucaria and coigüe woodland. Both require a bit more planning to reach, but the biodiversity, including several endemic bird species, makes the effort worthwhile.

Estadio Ester Roa Rebolledo is Concepción's main football ground, seating just over 30,000 spectators and ranking among Chile's largest stadiums. Built in 1962 and renovated in 2015, it hosts matches for several local clubs and carries a strong sense of regional football identity. Catching a game here on a winter Saturday evening, with the crowd in full voice, is one of the most distinctly local experiences the city offers.
