The park centres on Lago Todos los Santos and the cone of Osorno Volcano, with hiking trails that wind through Valdivian temperate rainforest. The Saltos del Petrohué, a series of rapids where turquoise glacial water rushes through black lava channels, is one of the most photographed sights in the entire Lake District.

Culture & history

Cathedral of Puerto Montt (Catedral de Puerto Montt) stands on the Plaza de Armas and is one of the most recognisable wooden structures in Chile. Built in the early twentieth century using alerce timber, the cathedral has a restrained, almost Nordic quality that reflects the German immigrant influence on the region's architecture. Step inside to see the vaulted wooden ceiling and the calm interior light that filters through the windows on a clear southern morning.

Plaza de Armas de Puerto Montt is the city's central square and a useful reference point for getting your bearings.
