Beaches

Playa de Viña del Mar (Playa Acapulco) is the city's main urban beach, conveniently located near the centre and easily walkable from most accommodation. The wide stretch of sand fills up with families and locals on summer weekends, and the calm bay makes it a comfortable spot for swimming. Museo de Historia Natural Francisco Fonck was founded in 1937 and holds one of the most complete Rapa Nui (Easter Island) collections on the South American continent. An authentic moai statue stands at the entrance, one of only a handful displayed outside Easter Island itself, brought to the mainland in 1951. The broader collection covers pre-Columbian cultures from across Chile, making this a genuinely substantive stop for anyone curious about the country's deep history.

Natural spaces and parks

Quinta Vergara Park & Amphitheater is a large, leafy park set around a Venetian-style palace, and it doubles as the venue for the Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar, one of Latin America's most important music festivals. Outside festival season the park is a calm, shaded place to walk, and the amphitheatre, which seats thousands, is an impressive structure even when empty.

Jardín Botánico Nacional sits on the outskirts of the city and covers over 400 hectares of cultivated and native plant collections. It's one of the largest botanical gardens in South America, with clearly marked trails that wind through sections dedicated to Chilean native flora, cacti, palms, and more. A visit here takes at least two hours if you want to do it properly, and the scale of the place consistently surprises first-time visitors.

Castillo Wulff is a turreted stone mansion built directly over the rocks at the water's edge, constructed in the early 1900s by a German saltpetre merchant. The building now belongs to the municipality and is open to visitors, with a glass-floored section that lets you look straight down to the sea below. It's one of the most photographed buildings on the Chilean coast, and the views from its upper terrace across the bay are genuinely worth the short walk from the city centre.

Templo de Viña del Mar is the city's main Catholic church, a solid and elegant early-20th-century structure that anchors the Plaza de la Iglesia in the heart of the city. The interior is calm and well maintained, and the square around it is a natural gathering point for locals at most hours of the day. It's an easy stop to combine with a walk through the surrounding streets.
