Founded in the 15th century, this Carthusian monastery is known for two things: its elaborate Plateresque façade, one of the most ornate in Andalusia, and its long association with the Carthusian horse breed, which was selectively developed on the monastery's grounds for centuries. Cultural centres

Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre is where Jerez's deep connection with horses becomes a full performance. The school trains riders and horses in the classical Spanish tradition, and its twice-weekly show, Cómo Bailan los Caballos Andaluces, is a precise, unhurried display of dressage set to live music. Even if equestrian sport is not usually your thing, the coordination between rider and horse is genuinely impressive to watch up close.

González Byass – Tío Pepe is the bodega that arguably put Jerez on the international map. The guided tour takes you through cathedral-like cellars stacked with barrels signed by everyone from Orson Welles to the British royal family, and ends with a tasting of fino, amontillado, and oloroso sherries poured straight from the cask. The centre functions as a research archive and cultural space, with free audiovisual displays, a library of recordings, and regular live performances. It is the right place to understand flamenco as a living tradition rather than a tourist spectacle.

Museo Arqueológico Municipal de Jerez traces the human story of this corner of Andalusia from prehistoric times through to the medieval period. The standout piece is a Greek bronze helmet dating from the 7th century BC, recovered from the Guadalete river. It is a reminder that this region was a crossroads long before the Romans or the Moors arrived.

Parque Zoológico y Botánico de Jerez is a well-maintained zoo and botanical garden that also functions as a rescue centre for injured and endangered Iberian wildlife. The collection of native species, including Iberian lynx, imperial eagles, and European otters, gives it a conservation focus that sets it apart from a standard zoo visit. The botanical section is worth a slow walk in its own right, particularly in spring.

Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto is a 4.4-kilometre racing circuit that opened in 1985 and has hosted MotoGP, Formula One, and World Superbike events. Named after Spain's most decorated motorcycle racer, the circuit sits on 113 hectares outside the city and is open to visitors on non-race days for track tours, driving experiences, and karting. If you time your bus to Jerez around the Spanish Grand Prix weekend in May, the atmosphere in the city is something else.

Plaza del Arenal is the natural gathering point at the heart of Jerez, framed by a 16th-century fountain and the façade of the old town hall. It is not a museum or a formal attraction.
