In the Middle Ages the city became the home of the invention of printing press and was later annexed by the French, but then reclaimed by the German’s after the Napoleonic wars. Nowadays Mainz is the capital of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has a well developed infrastructure, making it a popular bus destination.
